Criminal Law
The assistance of experienced and knowledgeable legal counsel often greatly affects the outcome of cases where criminal charges have been laid. Legal counsel should be retained by any individual charged with a criminal offence, and by the parents or legal guardians of children who have been charged under the Young Offenders legislation.
The practice of criminal law is designed to assist those who have been charged with offences such as: impaired driving or other vehicular offences; property offences such as theft or vandalism; crimes in the corporate domain; or the more serious offences of assault or criminal negligence.
Impaired Driving Defense
The government has responded to public concern over accident statistics by imposing increasingly stiff penalties for persons found driving while impaired. Penalties for first offences include lengthy license suspensions and a range of possible fines and jail sentences. They increase in severity with subsequent offences. Impaired drivers who injure other persons while operating vehicles face an automatic license suspension and the likelihood of extended time in jail.
Legislation allows police to test any driver who they suspect has been drinking and to arrest any driver who they believe has been in control of a vehicle while impaired. They are also empowered to impound the vehicle in question, even if the driver is not the registered owner.
If you are detained by the police, you must identify yourself and produce your driver's licence, registration and insurance documents. In addition, if the police reasonably suspect you have alcohol in your body, they have the right to demand that you provide a sample of your breath into a roadside screening device. A polite and co-operative attitude is recommended; however, you have the right, pursuant to the Charter of Rights, to contact a lawyer before responding to further police questioning. Whether you intend to plead guilty or not guilty, legal counsel can ensure that all proper defences are made. [-]

Real Estate Law
Due to eagerness or anxiety, Vendors and Purchasers often fail to address a number of crucial issues which relate to real estate transactions. Such omissions can later prove distressing and costly. We particularly stress the need for property surveys, and for reviews of all agreements prior to their execution. Special attention must be paid to such issues as zoning restrictions, dates of possession, requirements relating to financing, and potential delays in registration of documents or the advancement of mortgage proceeds. Personal Injury
Individuals are never adequately prepared for the difficult and distressing circumstances which accompany a personal injury. A personal injury lawyer is a lawyer who provides legal representation to those who claim to have been injured, physically or psychologically, as a result of the negligence or wrongdoing of another person, company, government agency, or other entity. Thus, personal injury lawyers tend to be especially knowledgeable and have more experience with regard to the area of law known as tort law, which includes civil wrongs and economic or non-economic damages to a person’s property, reputation, or rights.
Even though personal injury lawyers are trained and licensed to practice virtually any field of law, they generally only handle cases that fall under tort law including, but not limited to: work injuries, automobile and other accidents, defective products, medical mistakes, slip and fall accidents, and more.
As it becomes increasingly difficult to obtain information regarding accidents as time progresses, and as there are time limits for bringing claims, individuals suffering from injuries which result from accidents should contact a lawyer as soon as possible. [-]

The area of Family Law includes a broad range of legal matters, such as pre-nuptial agreements, adoptions, guardianships, separations, divorces and issues related to matrimonial property rights and enforcement of maintenance. All matters involving children are included in this area of practice.
Divorce law is a separate area of family law. Actions commenced for a divorce and for division of matrimonial property are two separate legal actions. The issues of maintenance and custody of children are dealt with in a divorce action, while allocation of both real and personal property between spouses is addressed in a matrimonial property action [-]

Immigration Law
Nationality law is the branch of law concerned with the questions of nationality and citizenship, and how these statuses are transmitted, acquired, or lost.
By custom, states have the right to determine who its nationals are. Such determinations are usually made by custom, statutory law, or case law (precedent), or some combination. In some cases, determinations of nationality are also governed by public international law—for example, by treaties on statelessness and the European Convention on Nationality.
The rise in human migration between states has made nationality law more important and complex. Related topics include immigration law, refugee law, and political asylum law. [-]
